THE PD1 Handheld Pile and Post Driver
Atlas Copco PD1 Handheld Post and Pile Driver
THE PD1, pile and post driver, is hydraulically powered impact hammer. It is supplied as standard with a 9-20lpm petrol powerpack. Whilst it can be configured to operate off a 20-30lpm pack for more power, this has to be prearranged. Feedback from use of a larger powerpack is that the recoil is harder to control. The hammer bouncing off the post or pile than driving it any faster.
The unit is primarily designed for driving posts and tubes and is extremely popular for festival preparations driving scaffold tubes. After evaluating a number of post drivers, this Atlas Copco hammer provided the most compact solution, whilst still providing a reasonable level of force. From the photos you will see that the unit configured for post driving can also drive MultiLock® plastic piling
The PD1 can be configured to suit most plastic sheet piling, posts, tubes and I beams. Whilst occasionally used on steel trench sheeting, it is not very effective due to the weight of the trench sheet.
The PD1 hammers are hired under CPA Terms and Conditions of Hire, copies are available upon request. Equipment hire based upon a 1 week minimum period, then charges based on a pro rata 5 day Monday to Friday week. We do not provide cover for weekend usage unless specifically requested and approved in advance of the hire.
Health and Safety Notice
The PD1 is described as a handheld unit, but weighing in at around 30 – 35kgs, its handling, lifting, mounting on to the pile must be subject to a proper manual handling assessment. What a generic standard male can lift easily, may not be something you can lift easily. When driving scaffold tubes, it may be feasible to pre mount the hammer onto the tube prior to levering both into position.
Where possible, even with such small equipment, see it you can use some mechanisation to lift and handle. You will also find that when in operation, you would be subject to hand arm vibration, the amount will depend on duration of use and size of powerpack used to power the unit.
It is an impact hammer and as such quite noisy so hearing protection should be used.
