Superior Weep Hole Drainage for Long-Term Structural Protection
THE Plastic Piling Company are the UK and Ireland distributors for the JET Filter System weep hole drainage filters. The JET Filter is a very innovative solution to the age old problem of relieving water pressure, that can builds up, behind retaining structures, such as retaining walls, seawalls, bridge abutments.
Lack of proper drainage is one of the most common causes of retaining structure failure. If left uncontrolled, this water “hydrostatic” pressure, can build up leading to the failure of that structure, through overloading its design.
Drainage alone isn’t sufficient, as the loss of soil from behind that structure leading to soil voids, sinkholes and costly repair work.
Conventional drainage systems in these structures will fail over time. This typically would be geotextile based filter fabric, but with no means of maintaining that geotextile, as behind the structure. Geotextiles used this way will eventually clog and tear.
The JET Filter system provides a superior maintainable alternative. The JET Filter is a flush mount geocomposite wick drainage system which can be permanently installed on the front side of a retaining structure. It prevents loss of soil and backfill material through weep holes. It still uses a geotextile, clog resistant FW300 Tencate Mirafi®, but in a way that is accessible from the front of the structure.
JET Filter Systems are designed for minimal maintenance. The removable inner filter cartridge can be easily cleaned or replaced when necessary, typically during routine inspections. This feature ensures long-term functionality without frequent interventions, reducing maintenance costs and effort.
The expanded surface area allows for over 200% additional water flow, effectively reducing water build up & minimizing structural pressure.
Within retaining applications specifically steel sheet piling, adding and maintaining JET Filters will likely reduce the over engineering of the design, saving money on using a lighter steel sheet pile.
Pest Entry can be an issue with open weep holes. The weep holes act as an entry point for pests like rodents and insects. JET Filters would prevent this.
Extend the Life Span of a Wall Design
Plastic sheet piling are interlocking structural sheets, often used in water control and retaining application. Due to the nature of the material and the design of the interlocks, they offer exceptionally good water tightness. Far superior to cold form trench sheeting. In applications where such water tightness is not required, JET Filters, particularly the 2.5″ ABS JET Filter work well at minimise water pressure behind the plastic piling wall.
The Problem
